DCL100 Flag & Pennant and Poster Design Contests

In honor of the 100th anniversary of Deep Creek Lake, the Deep Creek Lake Centennial Celebration (DCL100) Committee, is excited to announce the Deep Creek Lake 100 Flag & Pennant and Poster Contests. These creative competitions invite artists, creators, and community members to design a new pennant and/or poster celebrating Deep Creek Lake’s rich history.  This contest is made possible by a Garrett County Arts Council Community Arts Development Grant with funds provided in part by the Maryland State Arts Council.

Contest Rules & Submission Guidelines

Participants must create an original designs that reflect the essence of Deep Creek Lake. Designs must be suitable for reproduction and cannot include copyrighted or trademarked elements.

For the Flag & Pennant Contest: The DCL100 Committee is seeking to design a standard Deep Creek Lake nautical flag and pennant for display on boats, docks and houses.  The Flag and Pennant will have consistent theme and colors but layout may be different due to the different shape aspects.  Designs shall be for a rectangular nautical flag of 12″x 18″, and a triangular pennant of 8″(high) x 24″ (long as measured from the point of the triangle to the midpoint of edge).

For the Poster Contest: The DCL100 Committee is seeking a commemorative poster which reflects the essence of the heritage and beauty of Deep Creek Lake, suitable for framing and display.  The specifications of the poster are 24×36 inches, with a one inch margin on each side (effective art area is 22×34 inches). Portrait or landscape orientation. 

All submitted designs will become the property of the DCL100 Committee, with winners receiving continued acknowledgment for their artistic contribution.

How to Enter

Designs can be submitted as pdf or ither image files (vector format preferred) of a minimum of 300 dpi at the size specified above via email to deep.creek@dcl100.com. Contact this email address for large file transfers if email is not sufficient.

Entrants should provide a brief description of their design, explaining its elements and significance. Submissions must include the creator’s name, address, email, and phone number (contact information will remain private and used only to reach winners).

Deadline for submissions: Wednesday, June 25 at 4:00 PM

Entrants will be judged by a panel of DCL100 Committee Members and representatives of the local artist community.  The entrants will be judged on originality, design elements and suitability for multiple printing. 

The grand prize winners in the Flag & Pennant and Poster competitions will each receive $150, and their winning designs will made into flags, pennants and posters for sale at DCL100 events throughout the rest of the year.

Additional prizes include $100 for second place and $50 for third place  in both competitions.  All of the designs will be displayed at the Deep Creek Lake 100th Birthday Bash on July 19th at the Fairgrounds.
