In 2019, Local historian Ed King completed two books on the lake: “Deep Creek Lake: The Founders (Book 1)” and “I Love Deep Creek Lake: Another in a Series of Vignettes.” His previous work, “Famous Boats of Deep Creek Lake,” was released in 2013. The hard-bound “coffee -table” book featured sail, fishing and pontoon boats, as well as sunken and wrecked vessels and DCL’s “famous” Swan Boat.

The “Founders” book has become known as the “go-to” reference on the history of the lake and includes chapters such as “Building Deep Creek Lake,” “Camps to Cottages to Second Homes,” “Fulcher and Marie Smith,” “Helmuth (Ace) and Evelyn Heise,” “Summer Playhouses and Arts” “Charles H. (Skeeter) Bowman,” “Restaurants and Watering Holes” and much more. The “Founders, Book 2” will include  exclusive historic photographs obtained by Ed’s meticulous research as well as the personal stories and anecdotes that are throughout Book 1.
