Educational Activities

The DCL100 Committee made local student educational activities on Deep Creek Lake one of its top priorities for the 100th-anniversary celebrations. To make these activities possible, the DCL100 Committee have engaged the following activities.

First round of Garrett County school field trips to the lake: In April 2025, a series of field trips was held ~375 science students from Northern Middle School visiting the DCL Discovery Center for hiking tours, hands-on presentations, nature observation, and watercolor painting to learn about the ecology and conservation of the animals and plants of the lake and surrounding forests. Educators develop DCL curriculum: In April 2025, seven Garrett County Public School educators attended a workshop to develop educational curricula to be used in future classes to teach about various aspects of Deep Creek Lake. The DCL100 Committee paid for catering for the workshop and provided and stipend to the educators. Press release here
