Country Kastle

In circa 1972 Jay Kamineck purchased a lot from Arthur Savage in McHenry off Mosser Road to the rear of The First National Bank (no longer there) and what is now the Landings Townhomes. He built a family restaurant and named it Country Kastle. He served breakfast, lunch and dinner. Susan Prine purchased the business and leased the real estate, keeping the name. She operated the facility for another five or six years adding a liquor license. Next the business was bought and was called Checkers.
In 1995 the business and real estate was sold to Robert and Mikki Shahan who changed the name to The Topsider. They hired a chef, served excellent meals and continued serving alcohol. Then after The Topsider, Leonard (Speedo) Kushner took over the restaurant and named it Josie’s. Josie, Speedo’s mother, was also the cook and served some great comfort meals.
