Barbara and Gene Yell founded the summer theater playhouse. Gene was the director of the drama department of the University of New Mexico. Located on Marsh Hill Road across from the WISP the barn was the beginning home of the summer stock play house. The barn had been the former Arden Boat Club with the lower level set up as a nightclub during the prohibition years. The barn burned in 1962 but the show went on. First they moved to the school auditorium for a temporary place and then to another barn on Beckman Peninsula, which became known as the Blue Barn.
