Thayer’s Barn

In 1929 a parcel containing .60 of an acre (deed 100/178) including a barn was conveyed back to John O. Thayer from the original acquisition of land for the flodding of the lake. After the lake was flooded, John Philips (Pip) Thayer, the grandson of John O., had the idea that the barn had the potential of being a great restaurant and night spot. He remolded the interior to become the famous Thayer’s Barn. It was right on the newly relocated Rt. 219 and had one of the best views on Deep Creek Lake. It was not too fancy and had somewhat of a rustic look. A long bar went across one end of the room. There was a deck that went across one end that almost went out over the water to enjoy the unique view.
